My Review ✨

➡️ SWIPE 4 SYNOPSIS ➡️

The Whisperer by Donato Caruso
•••
Excellently done police procedural.
Reminded me of a Karin slaughter book. Lots of backstory. Very brutal. Had me on edge.
Only reason it got 4 stars and not 5 was the ending was a tad confusing.

Writing: the writing was excellent Carrisi does an excellent job if we’ve been together a story and had multiple characters, but was not confusing.

Plot: the plot was amazing. Six girls arms are found in a grave and one by one the body start showing up but they don’t know who the sixth girl is and they’re running out of time.
The plot, while gruesome and brutal at times was excellently done. I really have no idea what was going on and was satisfied with the ending.

Ending: while I was satisfied with the ending, and who the bad guy was, I was a little bit confused with a couple things. I can’t really get into it without getting into spoiler so….

A truly gripping read. Agatha Christie (!) has a similar theme in 'Curtain' but obviously this is a lot more complex - I have read crime novels for many years and can usually pinpoint the 'villain' quite quickly but this book doesn't work like that.

Honestly the book was full of holes and random coincidences that made no sense at times. The antagonist was treated as if he knew anything and everything that was about to happen, so much so that i almost believed him to be some kind of supernatural being and was just waiting for the author to drop that plot twist.

The characters were okay i guess, what hooked me most though was the way we were hit by mystery after mystery and one case after another. I enjoyed the puzzle the characters were trying to solve and even though it was a bit much at times, i still enjoyed the intrigue because why the hell not? It's the start of the year and i deserve to indulge in a slightly trashy (not by much i guess) murder mystery novel.

My first reaction after reading this book

I'm confused !

I think this is the first thriller of this kind I read, and reading another one of those would be too soon. It's gripping, and I couldn't stop reading. But reading about f*ed up people, was not enjoyable for me.
I liked the twist in the end though, but I'm left wondering ...
