Was my first foray into Warhammer and very much enjoyed it. It was surprisingly well written and even though I'd never played Warhammer I found the story and world/characters pretty easy to follow. Really liked Loken as a character.

I cannot help but compare this book to my favorite Dan Abnett story, Embedded. There is a similar story here, Abnett uses human journalists as point of view characters to investigate the Astartes. However, the execution falls somewhat flat. The heavy weight of 40k lore prevents the journalists from getting too close to the action, and it also prevents Abnett from innovating as far as he clearly wanted to with the almost really cool antagonists he created for this book.

Atmospheric, intense, hits the landing both when being serious as well it's being tongue in cheek.
One moment I was nodding along to a conversation on myth, the next I'm laughing at a cheeky biblical quote thrown in. A strong start to a great series.

Den började på topp och höll rätt igenom! Mörk, mystisk och våldsam. Precis så här vil jag ha min Warhammer 40k-literatur
