Great read, really enjoyed it and I never even figured out who the killer was.
SpoilerI had hoped it was Jeremy as he was a bit of a twat and I thought he was selfish enough and had something to lose.

Another series for me to get hooked on, there's just not enough hours in the day to get through all the books I want to read lol.

Great Read

Actual Rating: 3.5

This was an enjoyable read. This is the first book of the Hamish Macbeth series. In this book, Hamish Macbeth has to find the person who strangled and drowned tabloid reporter, Jane Winters. She was a widow and she reveal too many other people’s secrets. I thought the story was fun and quick. I thought the idea of having a cozy mystery with a male character was also something different for me. I thought Hamish was a great character. He is mysterious, but I kinda of would like to know more about him. He is described as bumbling, and lazy. However, as I kept reading, I thought he was observant and skilled at his job. I thought this is a great start to my first cozy mystery with a male main character. The ending was great. I am looking forward to see how the series goes. I am excited to read book 2. Death of a Cad, here I come. Overall, a great read.

I've just blitzed through the audiobook of this in a couple of hours, and I loved it. It is perfect MC Beaton and I am so happy every time I read one of her books. This is the first in the Hamish Macbeth series, and having read the second one unintentionally, I was so glad to go back to where it all started.

There are slight nods to AND THEN THERE WERE NONE in this one, where someone knows something about everyone in the group. But I guess that is where the similarity to AC ends, because we only have the one murder - that happens about 50% in - and we have a detective who is in no way a genius, definitely not on Marple or Poirot's level!! But he is rumpled and laid back, and has a slightly naive and charming way about him. He is also infuriating. But Hamish gets the job done in the end.

Looking forward to carrying on the series.

Rather dull and only Hamish was given a Scottish accent
