I was drawn to this book after reading the nowhere emporium and the elsewhere emporium, both written by the same author, so I was excited to see what else he has written.

This book tells the story of a young boy called Kirby who lives on an island where bad things keep happening. His mother has been hurt in a storm and is currently in a critical condition in hospital. Kirby meets the mysterious Amelia in her yellow raincoat who is just as odd as mysterious as all the things happening on the island. Together Kirby and Amelia most work together to save the island and most importantly Kirby’s mum.

A great read for any one who was a fan of the nowhere emporium series or anyone looking for a spooky Halloween read.

Ross Mackenzie creates the most incredible worlds with his words, full of adventure and magic. I really enjoyed this easy-to-read, dark tale of Kirby and Amelia and their blossoming friendship, full of mystery and emotion.

The mysterious and very quirky Amelia Pigeon appears just when Kirby needs her. Things get very strange with creepy spiders and evil spirits after him, he needs all the help he can get. This is definitely not one to read if you're scared of spiders!
