just a really fantastic premise. i loved the perspectives of the women, and Kingsolver’s writing style makes it easy to completely step into their shoes. basically little women meets the congo, and i loved every second.

So this was one of those books that I hung onto every word, until about three quarters of the way through the book. I struggled with the last three books. It was a powerful, moving story. It was a solid 5 Star read for that alone. I dropped a star for my hope the end was near.

been meaning to read this foreeeeever, got a long weekend in the middle of nowhere coming up.

this book is a bit of a slow burn. 100 pages in i didn't think i would be able to finish, but practically everyone i know loves this book so i kept going, and i'm glad i did. the writing is beautiful and the characters are fascinating. the first 100 and last 100 pages are a bit slow moving, but well worth the effort.
