Yes, I did give this book five stars, because I loved everything about this book-- and then some.

You know how we all wish Harry Potter could be rewritten or even continued by someone not problematic and terrible?

That's literally what we are getting with the continuing saga of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Not only does this book have inclusion, it's not heavy handed and is natural throughout the story.

This book starts off shocking and heartbreaking-- but as a big bad is revealed, as the pieces slowly start slipping into place with some of our fav Scooby gang-- and the birth of a new one-- we learn not everything is as it seems, and how was a new slayer called after all this time?!

It was so wonderful and almost cathartic to revisit all our old friends. They were written perfectly, and the voice actor was so brilliant! I loved her!

If you are a fan of buffy and miss it, I highly recommend. It's the continuation we've been waiting for!

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Disney Hyperion for a review copy of this book.

As a millennial, I grew up watching buffy and falling in love with the Scooby gang and the vampires (team spike forever!) So this was a book I knew I had to read!

Seeing the new generation of the Scooby gang, which happens to be the children of some of the original gang, was like growing up even more with the characters I love, as I’m now a parent sharing the buffyverse with my own children (hooray for geeky kids books!).

As I read this book, it was just like I was watching an episode of the series all over again! I look forward to more books to see how Frankie, Jake, Spike (seriously love that he is a watcher now!!!) and others fight the hellmouth once again in Sunnydale.

Well this hit the spot for the nostalgia I was hoping for. A great revamp of the series, pun intended, that has the quirks, jokes, and familiar fam woven into the story which made me want to go through another rewatch of the original. For fans looking to keep the experience rolling I highly recommend this book.

I received this ARC and am thrilled to get to read another of Kendare's books.
Reading this one gave me the same levels of nostalgia and serotonin that binge watching OG Buffy does. That's it. That's the review. I can't give it any higher praise.

There are some bits in not crazy about (the virgin blood), but that's sort of already established Buffyverse stuff, so I'm not knocking it against what is a truly great, campy read. Loved the Easter Eggs. Can't wait for others to get to read this.

For all the Buffy lovers out there. Bit hard if you never read or seen Buffy to catch up on

Like
- Has a way of drawing you back in constantly throughout
- It's a funny read which was unexpected
- In a way it sucked me back to high-school YA read that I liked
- Easily loveable characters and I liked the cheesiness of it

Dislike
- If you never read or seen Buffy then you'll feel like you're missing something. Famous past characters and places that probably meant something but flew past my head
- Sometimes the characters decision making skills and actions left me questioning why they did that

This was a fun read, but I don't think I could recommend it to someone who hadn't watched and enjoyed all seven seasons of Buffy (for me, 'enjoyed' is a big stretch for season 7).

It hit all the notes that a BTVS novel should hit. We got a Big Bad, a trio of Scoobies, a brooding yet redeemable hot demon boy, and a heaping spoonful of snarky, Whedon-esque dialogue. The dialogue was actually one of the standout parts for me. It would be very easy for that to be grating and unreadable, but it hit the style without being obnoxious. I'd bet that was a hard needle to thread.

Because it was set after the events of seven seasons of TV, there was a lot of exposition that slowed things down. Including the more complicated elements of Willow and Oz's relationship was exciting to me because I already knew and loved those characters, but it might not catch the attention of someone who didn't.

Sometimes I chuckled, sometimes I rolled my eyes. I'll probably read the sequel anyways.
