A classic preschool picture book with a simple, patterned rhyme. Great for learning animals and colors.

Lame and boring writing with not very good art. Learning to read can and should be better than this.

The singsonginess of Brown Bear Brown Bear was the soundtrack of 2009-2012 for me.

It was my toddler’s long-form way to ask his more common “whassat?” and my young Korean students’ preferred way to scare themselves.

I see a teacher looking at me is a more menacing line than I would have predicted.

It’s like a pop song in a board book; it worms into my head on its own timing, and then it’s there until it goes.

Fun Fact: Not only is this a classic children's book that will be on every library bookshelf (professional and personal) in the future, and not only is this a fun (even repetitive) book to sign in ASL, Bill Martin Jr.'s "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" is also banned book.

Yes, you read that correctly, this classic is a banned book!

If one were to go into the specifics, it can best be summed up by the explanation sheet included in the library's copy on display: "More a case of mistaken identity than concern over content, Bill Martin's classic children's book was banned by the Texas State Board of Education in 2010. It turns out that the children's author did NOT also pen 'Ethical Marxism: The Categorical Imperative of Liberation'. Oops! Ages 2-5.".

There you go folks. I am sure a quick Google search would have solved all of these concerns, but hey everyone has an off day...well, except Brown Bear that is.

I borrowed this book from the Children's Centre and didn't want to return it when our time was up. The rhyme really got my son excited and he would rock back and forth to the tune created by the syllables.

This is a great book and also teaches colours.

The version I had was paper so it wouldn't have lasted two minutes in his hand (he eats everything). At the time my son was about 9 months old. It has inspired me to look for other books by this writer and I have added it to my son's Christmas and birthday wish list.

Waaaay too unrealistic. Bears can’t talk and would not tell you what they can see.
Spoilerhe claims he sees a bird looking at him but realistically, birds do not look at bears
Spoiler I am very disappointed with this book.

My baby flips through this book until he finds the picture of the dog, then he points and makes the baby sign for "dog".
