the only other Kate / Clint interaction I have read were Clint's brief appearances in Young Avengers. I really enjoyed this issue! and what it shows about the issues Kate is dealing with post-young avengers. I should read more Hawkeye & post-young avengers Kate Bishop!

I always hate reading single issues because they always leave me begging for more, but this was a freebie from my brother and I love me some Kate Bishop, so I couldn't resist. I don't know if I'll end up picking up future issues of this but it's a solid first issue. No Pilot Syndrome here, which is refreshing in a superhero comic.

2016 was a shitty year for a lot of things, but it was a great year for female superheroes getting their own comic book series. Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel continue to be two of Marvel's bestselling series. The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl has proved to be an unexpected hit. Marvel also launched and is expected to launch several new series highlighting their female superheroes. A new Black Widow series by Christ Samnee and Mark Waid is an action-packed, Jason Bourne-esque adventure. Barbara Morse, aka Mockingbird, got her own hilarious eight issue mini-series written by Chelsea Cain, a feminist genius. Marvel also launched a new original series, Moongirl and Devil Dinosaur, that revolves around a genius preteen African American girl. It has been a good year for women in comics at Marvel. It will be an even better year with the addition of Hawkeye starring Kate Bishop as the lead.

I first heard about the new Hawkeye with Kate Bishop fully claiming the role when I was at ComiqueCon in Dearborn, MI. I was surrounded by female creators: artists, writers, inkers, and other women who work in the industry. I was at a panel featuring some amazing talented creators, and hearing about the Kate Bishop in that room just felt like the ultimate victory. I was on a feminist high that day, surrounded by so many likeminded people. We won, I though to myself. We won if we can have an event like this and comic books with women on the cover drawn and written by women. Of course, that's not true because it's not enough. We need more women in the industry, more content created for women by women, and more exposure of these books that do exist. It's a slow process, but we're getting there.

Hawkeye is everything I wanted it to be. Kate Bishop is my life hero. She is unapologetically herself: opinionated, sassy, and totally capable of taking care of business. I love the fact that she has taken up the Hawkeye mantle for herself and by herself. She is trying to start a new life for herself and help a few people along the way. I loved that the first real case she has taken on in her PI business (her reference page though) is a young college girl with a serious stalker who cann0t get anywhere through traditional channels. I can't wait to see what happens with Kate and this case. I can't wait for 2017 and all the series that I know are to come: the America Chavez series, the Hulk with Jennifer Banner officially taking up the title... Here's to the New Year, everyone. May it have some bright places.
