Completely readable and at some points sweet but also a bit slow and dull. I found it to be a bit too contrived throughout. A lot of people didn’t like the romance parts but those were actually a highlight for me although/maybe bc they felt like a different book.

At times overwhelming, but a really unique look into why we shouldn't judge the way others choose to live their lives. It's never too late to pursue happiness.

A wholesome book about death. Some parts were a bit sad, as you'd expect, but it's not a depressing read. 

I love the uniqueness of a main character who's a death doula, and Clover wasn't at all what I expected someone in that profession to be like. This book made me reflect on my own relationships and potential life regrets, as I think was the point. But it didn't feel preachy- just incredibly human. 

Several books I've read recently felt far too drawn out, but this one was perfect and really held my attention. If a slightly emotional, but still lighthearted read about someone who surrounds themselves with death learning how to truly live sounds like your cup of tea, then I'd highly recommend it!

We are here 
This book was an absolutely incredible look into a topic otherwise not spoken about. The depictions of grief are very accurate, and the characters were flawed and lovable and felt so real.  I related so much to clover and I absolutely loved the relationships she tentatively formed with others in the book.

TL;DR: A fun escape, with a simple but important message, even if that message comes with an assumed level of privilege.

I expected it to be a little more focused on Clover’s job, we only actually see three of her clients, most of the book is focused on her own life. But I didn’t mind. I do think the overall message - live life to it’s fullest - was pretty simple and repeated a lot, but it is an important reminder. I didn’t know death doulas were a real thing until I looked it up after discovering this book, and it was really interesting to learn about it. I think thats a really beautiful service to exist, and I might try to learn more about it now.

Hugo 2.0 was a little too comically perfect, though I still liked him.

Also I found it incredibly uncomfortable that Clover spied on her neighbor’s in their homes with binoculars… Like Sylvie didn’t even seem creeped out by that. It was so weird.
