You are dead, and there are no words left; and no lies that will hold.

This was alright. I have a soft spot for
horror stories told in second person or really anything in second person. However, I'm not sure I totally loved this. The writing felt very juvenile and cringy in places and the ending was (in my opinion) stupid and ruined the whole story for me.

Crisp and vibrant Lullaby for a Lost World is a delicious tiny slice of world building and mystery. Do I want more? Yes, absolutely but this is still a perfect little snack of a short story you should read: https://www.tor.com/2016/06/08/lullaby-for-a-lost-world/

They bury you at the bottom of the gardens - what's left of you, pathetic and small and twisted so out of shape it hardly seems human anymore.

Love this concept, and wish there were more of it. Bodard strikes again with lyrical writing and a haunting, almost gothic atmosphere.

Definitely a solid take on the idea of a blood sacrifice in order to keep others safe. And in this case, it is the one who has been blood-let after the fact, watching the world move on without her.

Short Story Saturday

Recently, I've been reading books that have centered around the "spirits or souls" left behind after death. This book weaves the feeling of hopelessness, of being stuck and immobile through no fault of your own and the growing desperation to move and be heard.

It reminded me of sleep paralysis, and the feelings of pushing through thick air above me in those movements of confusion and terror at the idea of not waking up.

Beautiful prose, melancholy atmosphere.
