Not Temeraire's best outing. The plot was lackluster. There was much chasing around after nothing and the dialogue consisted almost entirely of complaining.

This was good enough, but it's beginning to feel like the series is dragging. Not sure how many books remain, this book opened up some new problems without solving any.

This was one of the weaker installments of the series for me. After the constant action and near-perfection of book 5, there is just... not a lot that happens in this book. The beginning and end of the novel were interesting, but the middle – a chase through the unforgiving Australian outback – was ponderous and slow. I did love that Tharkay made a return, though, and Lawrence starting to do the work of healing and finding his own way (e.g. his desire to live a quiet life with Temeraire in the country) was nice to see.
