This book was a slow burn in all the best ways. Paolini does not rush in unraveling these relationships, experiencing character maturation, and revealing all the twists and turns. Most importantly, he is slow and measured in world building. The reader is not inundated with unfamiliar dialects, places, and history. Rather they learn as the character learns, and not as a third party playing catch up.

I feel I can actually measure the personal writing growth in Paolini as well.

Not only does this book continue to hold the title of best development and use of magic in any novel/series, but it also does a stellar job of providing history and lore of each race.

Specific shout out to Paolini's ability and willingness to write character decisions that are 1) canon and 2) something the reader can relate to; the correct decision.

Here's hoping Brisingr is just as good.

A high 3.5 stars, so I'm rounding up. I read this VERY disjointedly, so that is primarily why I rated it as such. The plot + characters are interesting and the writing is good. Would recommend.
