A retelling of the myths of Ariadne I found the first part of this book very slow and almost dull. Perhaps because I am already so familiar with the story of Theseus and the Minotaur and this version didn’t really add anything to that.
The second half on Naxos was much better, and coincidentally is the part of the myth that I had no prior knowledge of.
Ariadne seems sweet but is not necessarily well written. I don’t really root for her at any point in the book as she is kind of a limp character. Same for Phaedra so much so I didn’t really care when she died.
The men in this book are awful - which is the point - but it does grow weary sometimes reading a book full of awful men, even ones who you thought were good.

A beautiful retelling of several greek myths weaved together in timeline. I really like the juxtaposition of each sister's life until they come crashing together at the end. Of course the end is very typical of myth, tragicly beautiful.

this book is basically about not trusting men. can absolutely get behind that. i don't know the myth so i wasn't expecting the ending and it made me sad but also think a lot. i enjoyed this book, it was lyrical yet easy to read. it was extremely introspective and cerebral and i would've liked more dialogue.
