Fantastic book. I started reading it to my baby as a bedtime story (she is not old enough to mind the darker plot points) but it was so good that I stopped reading it out loud and just devoured it. Amazing characters. The best kind of humour and tone. There’s a top notch dog. Amazing.

Read for a book club, and was so happy to get sucked in to the story when reading has been hard for me this year. The side characters were the best part, along with Kingfisher's penchant for exploring the mundane everyday parts of life in her fantasy stories.

Audiobook was GREAT, Amara Jasper did a fantastic job.

I love Kingfisher’s fairy tales. This one seemed to divert a few times but when it was on track, it was amazing.

I loved this book! The protagonist is extremely relatable (autistic coded?). She has no confidence in herself, yet she does impossible task after impossible task simply because she has no choice, if she wants to save her sister (and maybe herself). I love Fenris with his simple, straightforward attitude (and extremely adorable romance), I love the dust wife with her demonic chicken and mysterious powers, I love the godmother with her creative use of limited power and her relentless sweetness.
