I fucking can't oh my god

Yeah um that was a thoroughly enjoyable book. I saw nearly everything coming a mile away but it didn't matter because the journey there was stunning.

JLA is truly at her best with the sweeping grand climatic scenes, and there is plenty of that on display here.

All the issues I had with this book (and series) come down to the editing. Some of it was grammar, some of it was world building issues. Publishing houses really need to start asking authors 'what level of technological development is this world at?', 'where did the characters get this item?', and 'is current slang applicable to this world?'

holy shit. this was significantly better than the last book! I had my fears but it definitely proved me wrong. Once again this book falls victim to a action packed beginning and end but a relatively boring middle. I think Poppy is wayyy too overpowered in terms of where we started. I will say though between the end, the joining, the Poppy & Castiel reunion, and Tawney I have a lot of positives too. Which is why the book is rated as high as it is. While this book falls victim to a lot of the pitfalls of the 2nd and 3rd book, it is entertaining as hell and FINALLY answers series long questions (despite how ridiculous some answers are).

This felt like a filler episode. I don't think it was as bad as some people say, I still very much enjoyed it, but it was....odd? The first half was perfectly fine, then the second half slows down a lot but then so much happens in the last 10 pages TOO fast. It also
gets randomly preachy about sexism about who was the truly powerful primal being Seraphena but credit went to Nyktos that was super weird and out of left field.

I still very much enjoy Poppy's journey into finding her strength but at this point, her only flaw is that she gets angry and asks too many questions, which we know already. Casteel really got moved to the backseat in this book, but at least Keiran is here and quickly became my favorite of the trio.
So yeah it's not great, but it's not horrible and I'm still enjoying reading it and will continue to read but totally understand people giving up or it just not being their cup of tea. It's not as repetative but it's still there, there's still lots of heavy dialogue "telling-not-showing" sections, and randomly modern lingo. Just have the expectation that this is not a amazing piece of literature and have fun.

I was definitely more engaged for this book than the previous one. All of that war and destruction really keeps the pace going strong.

A lot happened in this one—world building (yes, more of it), war, the desperation of freeing a heartmate, lust, love, and the ongoing battle between mother and daughter. Not only did we get to see POVs from Poppy and Casteel, which was a nice switch up, we also got to see a whole lot more.

Count me in for the next book.

Book 4 - solid magic, mystery, war development. Too many steamy scenes that didn’t add anything to the plot. Just felt like they were included to check all the boxes. A lot of drama could be avoided if characters just had the hard discussions.
