This just isn’t the book for me and that’s okay. Pushed through because I enjoyed the daughter and the migraine representation. Overall the story fell flat for me and felt overwhelming at the same time just with all the trauma and struggles- it felt like too much but at the same time just kept making me feel disconnected from the characters instead of helping me relate and emotionally connect. The format of this book was a bit confusing at times because it switches timelines quite a bit, I wish it had been a little clearer with some kind of chapter heading.

Where do I even start? We have Shane and Eva who've known each other since high school. They fall in love in a short week and then they never speak again. 15 years later, both as accomplished authors and Eva as a single mother, they somehow find their spark again. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I love the development in Shane. He was basically a kid set up for failure in his youth and he changed his life around. As for Eva, she's awesome. A best selling author, a great mom all while battling a Chronic invisible illness. As for the Romance itself, the flashbacks were rather interesting. They basically found love in a hopeless place. Lol. So for the 🌶🌶? Nice. Nothing too crazy if a reader doesn't like erotica. This book has been on my TBR list for a while and I'm so glad I finally got around to it. It was a great read! ❤️ RIP Tyree🙏🏾

Going into this I didn't think I would like it but I found myself so caught up in it, wanting to see what happens next and if Eva and Shane would be able to make it work the second time around. The teenage versions of themselves seem rather self-destructive so it's nice to see that they both were able to get to a steady-ish state as adults, by the time they meet again. The mother-daughter relationships are complex but mostly believable (I'm surprised that Eva maintains a relationship with her mother, after what we see when Eva's a teenager, but I really like Eva's relationship with her own daughter, Audre). I do wish we could have gotten more insight into the books that both Eva and Shane have been writing in the time since they last saw each other -- like fake little blurbs from their books at the beginning of each chapter would have been nice.
Spoiler Also, that part at the end of Chapter 7 where Eva says "Stop writing about me" and Shane replies "You first"? Swoon. The fact that their books are not just written to each other but also about each other helped sell the relationship for me and that is the moment that I really got hooked into the story.

A little spicy, a little sweet, this book is a brilliant love story. It focuses on two broken people and their journey to loving themselves and one another completely. I loved the characters, I loved the way the author including many present-day pop culture references and allusions, I loved the ending.

ending felt rushed. I did enjoy the characters' back stories and how the two were constantly drawn to each other. genuinely hated all the pop culture references, but that's just a me thing ! overall, a pleasant read. just not amazing!
