This was a sweet, well-written read that you can tell was written with a lot of love. There was a good balance of light and shade, with bits of well-done humour and the main characters were so compelling (although a lot of the supporting characters were kind of written off as one-dimensional stereotypes imo). It didn’t completely blow me away the way I was expecting it to, considering the amount of people I’ve heard raving about it, but maybe my expectations were too high.

I knew this book was going to be a 5 ⭐️ in the first 50 pages. There haven’t been many books I’ve read that the characters felt as human as Shane, Eva, and even Audre. The way their joys, agonies, and everything in between are described is nothing short of perfection. I will admit not a lot of “plot” happens in this book it’s all character development and reflection, but if you love that please read. I’m normally not a second chance romance lover, this one is perfection.

Second Chance Romance, Trauma, 2 1/2 🔥

“You push stuff away that isn’t safe and obvious, Mom, but love isn’t safe and obvious. Love is risky. Take the risk, woman.”

“I’ve been roaming around forever, and I’ve never been anywhere I wasn’t itching to leave.”

read most of this but dnf because it leaned too much into romanticizing mental illness and felt as if the main relationship was not healthy.

- dayton ohio mention in the first chapter?? was not expecting this! they kinda did us dirty though, there are absolutely weird black fetishizing white women in town but it is one of the most racially diverse cities in ohio and that was neglected.

- watching succession with a 12 year old is wild

- yesss love the mention of underfunded schools with appreciation and care

- trauma bond relationship…. yikes

- everything moves so fast in this book

Loved watching Shane and Eva’s relationship ebb and flow. Felt very natural and realistic.
