Solid little collection for teens. Powerful poetry. Would highly recommend for educators to use this in middle and high school classes.

This was really good. A lot of the poems gave me goosebumps. Obviously being a white women I couldn’t relate to all the poems, but I related to some and the others I just found to be so powerful. I really liked at the end of this there was background information on some of the poems. A lot of them made me angry as well because of the injustices in the world.

This is a collection of poems by Zetta Elliott and other poets that "celebrate the creativity, resilience, and courage of Black women and girls." These poems focus on not only recent events/injustices/struggles faced by the Black community but those that have occurred for hundreds of years.
These are powerful poems. The passion, the anger, the pain, even the joy - they are gripping.  These poems share a history, both past and ongoing, from the perspective of those that have typically been ignored, written over by those that would rather pretend that these events never happened, that these feelings aren't valid.  I know that these are poems that I will reread for years to come, sharing them with others. Please, read these.

These poems are beautiful, powerful, insightful and upsetting. You can feel the passion and hurt behind each one.

LOVED. The poetry was really good, and the depth of her references that you read about afterwards made for repeat readings of most of the poems!

This was my first ARC for 2020 and I really enjoyed it. It was also really taught provoking. I will post my review on January. Just to mention I didn't get the finished copy so the art is to come.
