Last year I read 'Grown Ups' and stayed up until 2am unable to put it down. This isn't as complex and mature as that but it's still insightful as well as entertaining. The 1990s setting makes it a period piece and sparked lots of memories of that period in my life, when I was doing similar kinds of things to the characters here. There are things I don't think Keyes would write now - some cartoonish fat-shaming for example - but god knows what I was like at the time.
Moderate: Alcoholism and Fatphobia

Very boring book, almost DNF. Unnecessarily long, moves incredibly slowly and the book as a whole feels really disjointed.
Characters are not very likeable which is such a shame. Rather a lot of nastiness which isn’t really applicable to the context of the story so it just seems unnecessary. Together with the general nastiness of the characters there’s also too much fat shaming talk for my liking as well as the occasional racist/sexist/homophobic comment from a character which I didn’t like.
Ending was stupid. Would not recommend.
Satisfactory ending? No.
