I loved this! The dialogue was a little weird at times, but these declarations of love were everything! And the STEAM!!! I was here for every bit of it.

This book was amazing. There are certain tropes which aren’t exactly favourites of mine like immaturity and miscommunication, BUT the book would not be the same without these tropes added on. The development of Aaron and Linas relationship is one written so well and is one to have the heartstrings tugged.

I wanted to love this but in the end I wasn't quite the right reader.

There is an unusually long set up for a romance (noting that at 450+ pages it is a long romance novel), and I found the dynamic between the leads puzzling at first. About half way through it clicked in my neurodivergent head: think of it as a romance between a stereotypical ADHD person and a masking autistic person. Suddenly it all made sense to me, although I am most certainly projecting. And although this new perspective helped me, there were some aspects of the novel that bothered enough to prevent a higher rating: the text fat-shames an antagonist (he wears a shirt at least two sizes too small from memory - did we need this detail?) and some of the trauma that the protagonist describes inadvertently triggered me (this is not the author's fault, I was surprised by my own intense reaction tbh). I still enjoyed a lot of scenes but I didn't fall in love with the novel like most of the universe seemed to, alas.

Honestly, I just thought the writing was so subpar. I also don't think the 'office romance' trope is for me, because I read The Hating Game and didn't love that either. I also hate when they make the girl, the main character, just so stupid-sounding. I really did not like her and enjoy her personality at all, it was super annoying. I feel like if the main character had been a bit different, and if the writing was a bit better I could have enjoyed it, and I might have forced myself to read through this one because I usually try to do that but I could just not read a single page more.
