While some parts of this story are entertaining, I did not find it very original. All the characters are just like past characters in the Narnia series. There is nothing that really distinguishes Shasta and Aravis from Digory and Polly in The Magician's Nephew. It seems like all the male characters and all the female characters are just repeats of each other and have the same personalities. The other characters are complete stereotypes.

This was a cute little story to add more background to Narnia and surrounding kingdoms and countries. My only complaint was that it was a little slow, but I understand it was written for children so there is a lot of explaining to be done while world-building so I push through. I did enjoy seeing more of Aslan and the four children as royalty. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

My unchronological journey through Narnia has come to an end. And this was a fun story to finish with. It's the only Narnian story that does not star someone from our world. Instead, the main character is Shasta, a boy raised by a harsh fisherman who found him as a baby. When he overhears his "father" selling him to a Colorman, he runs away with his new master's talking horse.

C.S. Lewis looked at this story as symbolic of the Christian journey through a land that is not his home. Bree and Shasta travel though a country not their own in the hope of reaching Narnia. However, when I listen to this story I don't feel compelled to stop and think about the message hidden in it's pages as I do with some of the others. This book, in my opinion, contains the best writing and most cohesive plots. I hope someone, someday, turns it into a movie.
