Cheesy, RomCom, Fluff. But I enjoyed it. And probably will read the rest of the series

This book started out fine and then just started to get worse and worse. Eventually the wheels came all the way off for me and in the end I was left so confused by many of the plot points. Also, I finally came to a full realization about two of my biggest pet peeves in romance books. Pet peeve #1 - Female leads who are ridiculously, over the top, naive and repeatedly humiliate themselves. Pet peeve #2 - Male leads who start out as ass holes who mansplain everything, then it turns out they are in fact just mansplaining ass holes (and the female lead just likes that by the end)! I can understand how some people might be hooked by this book if they are big pet lovers, or love a small town setting, but it was not for me.

Very sweet and simple love story. Super cute, but I liked Meg Cabots other books more.

I bought this a while ago, read a bit, and put it down as I had trouble getting into the story. I finally picked it back up, but it probably wasn't my best decision.
Bree is a rich girl working as a waitress in a small cafe in the Florida Keys. She alludes to some trauma that sent her fleeing here, but it isn't explained until late in the book. Meanwhile, a hurricane is coming, and the community is in an uproar, except for Drew, the heartbreaker guy who's determined to ride the storm out at his place on the beach.
Honestly, the story feels very disjointed, with a series of scenes meant to be funny but really weren't. I was appalled by the number of people who just left their pets and then expected Bree to care for them all. The Drew and Bree romance felt forced. And the scenes having to do with Bree's trauma were ridiculous (I mean, shooting a gun at the guy was just stupid, even with Florida's absurd gun laws). Not a book I would recommend.

I loved the first half of No Judgements. I was really invested in both the outcome of the hurricane and Bree's relationships. I was a little horrified to see how she handled the hurricane. I'm a pretty anxious person so my first hurricane season I did a ton of research and left for a category one that ended up passing by where I lived. Of course had she evacuated there would have been no book. I thought Meg Cabot did a good job describing what it's like to live somewhere where a hurricane is about to hit. I did think the description of living through the actual hurricane was a little mild. It can be pretty scary and the worst I've ever stayed for was a category 3. I liked that Bree went to rescue all the pets and had empathy for the owners. That can be really hard and there have been times when people tried to get help for their pets after a hurricane and they got so much judgement it could have easily discouraged others from asking. What didn't really work for me about this book was the romance. I wish they had stayed together during the storm. I would have liked them to bond more and not just end up together because of physical attraction and a mutual love of pets. I also would have liked to see their relationship progress a little more. I don't mind when a romance happens quickly especially in a high stress situation but I like to at least see the couple say I love you before the end of the book. I loved this town though so I am interested to try another book in this series and see if the romance aspect is better in another book in the series.

Bingung banget sebenernya mau ngasih rating berapa wkwk

"I wasn't being stubborn - or maybe I was being stubborn, for what felt like the first time in my life. I was standing up for myself, which meant running toward something. I didn't know what, exactly...but maybe that's why I was still here." - No Judgments by Meg Cabot

If you are looking for a feel-good, laid-back chick-lit, you can never go wrong with a Meg Cabot novel. Witty, heartwarming and hilarious, the first book of the Little Bridge Island series is perfect as a light and breezy read.

Bree Beckham recently escaped her glitzy life in New York to the picturesque and charming Little Bridge Island. After leaving the mainland storm in the form of her overbearing mother and gaslighting ex-boyfriend, Bree is determined to enjoy the island life as a waitress of the Mermaid Cafe.

Except Bree has walked into yet another storm - in the form of Hurricane Marilyn. While the islanders are busy evacuating, Bree finds herself responsible in saving the beloved pets of the islanders who were not able to bring their pets with them. Aided by the impish Drew Hartwell, Bree is saving as many pets as she can - while trying to brave the storm in her.

While this is essentially a romance novel, I enjoyed the colourful characters of the Mermaid Cafe, and the inhabitants of Little Bridge Island. It is always a delight to read about dysfunctional, close-knit communities. I liked how the book is very focused on the protocol and impact of hurricanes. Being blessed to have not experienced such natural disasters, it was quite insightful to learn more about how the different islanders react to the hurricane, and how it affects them greatly. The story is as charming as Little Bridge Island itself - packed with lots of heart and humour to make the reader enjoy every bit of it.

I received a digital ARC via NetGalley to review this book. I have always been a fan of Meg Cabot's so when I saw this was available I jumped on the chance to read it. Basically this book is just alright. The writing is pretty good, it's a decent plot, with decent characters. It is just an average book, if you are looking for a book to read on the beach, or something to read during a bubble bath that is easy and doesn't require too much thought this is the book for you.
