This book is no doubt my Bible. I think about it often and recommend it to anyone who has become disillusioned about nonprofits and philanthropy.

This is not a good book to read if you're already suffering from non-profit burnout!

this book fucked me up but also I feel like I’m not smart enough for it to fuck me up ENOUGH. I need a book group to help me digest it in community.

extremely affirming in highlighting the contradictions of effective social justice work from within 501(c)3 spaces. timeless but also would be interesting to see a sequel of sorts in more recent essays on this subject

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!

Every single essay both affirmed and transformed my beliefs. I can’t help but bring this book up in conversations.

My neighbor asked, "Is this a little reactionary?" Ummm... yes, but that doesn't make it less valid-- or validating. This book is confirming the gut feelings I've had about philanthropy ever since my Ford program officer told me that "Ford funds 90 percent of the social justice movement in the United States." Ummm, no it f-ing doesn't.
