Many years ago I read this. I could slightly remember that I enjoyed it though I couldn’t remember the plot. I so enjoyed how this story unfolded. Easy to read, doesn’t waste words and chapters.
A story of a utopian society where people have limited choices. I thought as I read this, how would todays society be if we didn’t have choices? Worth the short read.

Revisiting a book you analyzed so much in your academic career is like visiting an old friend. I appreciate The Giver so much more now as an adult, after having lived a little more of my life. The gravity of certain themes settles more deeply: free will, censorship, structures of labor, family dynamics, etc. I can see why it's an assigned reading for many high school students. It's quite short and easy to read, but is so complex.
Also, I didn't know there were so many sequels! Excited to read those too.
