Single Dad Cowboy? SIGN ME UP

This is the first book by Sienna Judd I’ve read and if this is anything to go by, I’ll be devouring the whole Starlight Canyon series. I was in the mood for a single parent, small town read and this one had cowboys?! I was all in.

This follows Colt, a single dad of a special needs daughter and Sam, the temporary teacher at his daughter’s school. The slow burn of their relationship was pretty satisfying but after some miscommunication regarding his daughter’s curriculum at school, it sets them up in the beginning as sort of enemies that I could have done without. They meet at the local bar, have intense chemistry but don’t know who the other is and then when they meet again at a dress shop and find out who the other is, they have this antagonistic back and forth that pulled me out of the story just a but.

But once they got on more even ground and put their animosity aside, I was pulled into the story and couldn’t put it down.

Colt is like, TOP TIER SINGLE DAD. He sweet, he’s patient, he loves his daughter with everything he has. Once he allows himself to fall, he’s OBSESSED with Sam and shows her time and time again that he’s the one for her. Sam has her secrets and thinks that she’s not enough for Colt and why she needs to leave after her temporary position is over. No spoilers here, but it so sooo satisfying once they got their sh*t together.

Loved this! Would definitely recommend and will continue on with the series!

Warm fuzzies alert! Love the lack of fear Sienna Judd had tackling such sensitive topics. Between infertility and autism representation. She tackled so many sensitive topics head on and l so well! I don't see it often but I do appreciate when you see a character going through therapy, especially a male character.

I love Sam's fierce need for independence and not wanting to ruffle feathers. It is so relatable. And Colt's need to be the protector and the provider (first child probs), and finally putting some of his wants first. Might be an unpopular opinion, but I like that there wasn't a lot of time spent world and character building all the others that we will see in the series, and that I was able to focus on Colt, Sam, and Eve.

I am excited to see more looks into the Hunter family's lives. Especially spying a Logan book and a Jolie book.

Cowboy + Single Dad ✔️Sign me up

Everyone in town loves Sam immediately and so did I. Her spirit, fight and kindness draw everyone in, including Colt, even if he is unwilling at the start. Once he’s in, he’s really all in. These two were able to grow with each other in a natural way as they gave each other the safe space to do it in.

Found family is one of my favourite tropes in romance and this book really hit home with it. Not only was Sam able to find her place with Colt, Eve and the entire Hunter family. But also with the school, community and town.

Overall great read, topics remained light enough even though tough conversations and bonus point so disability representation!

This was fine. I didn’t really feel the connection between Colt and Sam and they both did things that irritated me. Eve was so special and I loved how much Colt and Sam loved her.

🚩The first four chapters became repetitive, all conversations affirming gender stereotypes — men should pay and open doors, men can’t be expected to talk about periods (even when fathers), being treated as an equal in a relationship is overrated…
🚩 I’m a teacher. I can’t read about teachers who cross boundaries with students —especially vulnerable students as in this case. The teacher going into a store dressing room alone with the 12 year old girl had me DNFing.
• Relationships and conversations were surface level. There was no intriguing plot in sight.

This story was just OK, truthfully I was bored through most of it even though it had an interesting premise. Probably won't continue the series.
