A deputy US Marshal and a journalist escape and run from a drug cartel. I adored him, he's protective, ruthless with a sexy, tender side. She's kind, brave, with nerves of steel. Their romance is great, it's hot, passionate but also sweet and poignant. The chemistry is tops and the emotional, healing moments between them are 😭.

There's a bit of push-pull from him but she's resolute all the way. He puts his life on the line for her, and she's equally protective as well. Their steamy scenes are 💯 high heat (danger banging included)! The action is exciting, explosive, and ties in with the building of their romance. I did wish that her dead fiancé was less present but it's a small issue. My fav side charas and their bond is aces, and the HEA is just lovely.

Ever Since reading Still Beating I've been wanting more books involving falling in love in captivity. This did scratch that part of my brain, but parts of it just fell flat for me.

As usual, Pamela Clare writes the best Contemporary Romantic Suspense.

Characters were likeable as usual however it didnt seem as strong as previous books in the series, the plot in places seeming very unrealistic and I thought the writing style may have changed a little.

I like to see how previous characters are getting on though, Hunter and Darkangelo being my particular favourites and it was still a very good read, just not as good as previous instalments

Really wanted to love this one. Had high expectations since I've enjoyed most of the previous books. While the action part of it was fine as the hero/heroine are traveling through Mexico trying to get to the border to cross back into the US, I just get annoyed at stopping to have some sex while running from the bad guys. It's ok if you're in a relatively safe place but at least once they stopped in an open area where the bad guys could have found them and shot 'em dead. Not to mention how they've been on the run so are sweaty and stinky and oh, let's throw in some oral sex. I know, I know this is romance and the land of morning sex with no hint of morning breath but for me....I find it too much when so much of the plot is about trying to stay alive but then a scene pops up and the h/h drop all common sense to screw. Yes, this happens often in books but for some reason when it happens while running for your life in a desert-type setting it is an automatic annoyance for me.

The saving grace of this book is seeing some of the heroes from the previous books. The interactions between all of them and all the joking around were some of my favorite scenes. Also, getting glimpses of them as fathers...Loved it!

So overall, I'm still a fan of the author and will read her next book.

Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters series is one of my all time favourites. So when I heard about a couple who meet whilst in the clutches of a MEXICAN DRUG CARTEL, well, you can imagine my excitement levels. Then I discovered he was former a Navy SEAL and my delight increased all the more.

Did it live up to my expectations? Sort of. I liked the hints of previous stories, enough to seek out some of the earlier books in the series. Oddly enough, once the story moved away from Mexico, I found my enjoyment levels increased. I quite liked Zach and Natalie as a couple, bland as they both were at times. The handling of past traumas was well handled and their connection was believable. The action was terrific and the finale had me on the edge of my seat.

So, why only 3 stars? Please see: the top of page 349. Yeesh.

Still, lots of fun.

Hot romantic suspense in the desert!
