man i really cannot get over this series. this is how you write a penultimate book of a series.

the story takes off right after valour, and has over 10 (ten!!) POVs to follow. insanity. and john gwynne just juggles it all so phenomenally. there are some characters i am more wanting to read than others, but the plot just doesn't refuse to drag.

i lost my handy map of everyone's travels halfway through valour, but my being in constant confusion concerning the ins and outs of everyone's location hasn't affected my reading experience at all. the stakes are high, the god-war looms, all bets are off, it's just fantastic.

also once again, gwynne's ability to write close-combat fighting is just chefs's kiss - i never thought i'd see the day where i would not skim a fight scene but with every new book gwynne proves me wrong.

seriously anyone who needs a taste of epic fantasy needs to read the faithful and the fallen. not to speak before reading wrath, but i am pretty confident this is going to sit as my favourite epic fantasy series of all time (sorry to the demon cycles and ASOIOF)

We are what we choose to be. What makes a king a king? Is there something different about him? Does special, sacred blood run in his veins? No. He is chosen; he believes it, and the people believe. He rises to the task, or he fails it.

“Ruin” is the third instalment in the Faithful and the Fallen series by John Gwynne and I think the book is very well titled. Now in the third book of the series, I can confidently say that the series was written as one long story broken down into four parts. The sequel books always picks up where the previous book ended and that was a similar case in this one.

I don’t know how to review this without giving spoilers but John Gwynne put everything he has in this book. It was so good. The fight scenes were magnificent as usual (No one does fight scenes like him). We love our heroes. We despise our villains. We experience emotional hits left and right. This book had me stressed. When Veradis and Nathair met? My heart was racing. The ending? I audibly gasped. Also I've officially adopted Haelan is my son. He's baby.

Corban is really vying for hero of the year.

It's getting harder and bloodier to find honest men and keep them alive.
