I just finished reading this book and think it is terrific. I don't understand reviews on Good Reads and Amazon criticizing the book as being for the 'beginner,' because the words 'survival guide' in the title provides that guidance. The writing is understandable, well-organized, and empowering.

No matter where you are on the education technology adoption continuum there is something to be learned from this book. Doug Johnson emphasizes we need to measure technology achievements in our institutions by how the majority of teachers are using technology, not just the early adopters.

My one question about the book is why isn't there a checklist for classroom teachers asking them if they are taking advantage of all of the various technology resources school libraries offer them and their students? I would have liked to see a list of all that should be offered and suggestions for incorporating them into lessons. It's a great way for an administrator or a teacher to check whether their school library is current with global practice.
The author does do an excellent job of walking teachers through how librarians can help them in their technology adoption. Since libraries are probably one of the greatest returns on investment any citizen can get (my traditional measure is to try and get four times my annual investment back from a public library) making sure students know how to use all of these resources is one giant wealth creation machine for any country.

If your school library doesn't have this book, you might consider suggesting it.
