This book definitely was not what I thought it would be when I started it, and it did not end the way I would've assumed. Plot twists galore. Jam packed with plotting revenge, revelation, betrayal, and overwhelming detail about life in the French countryside.

Highlights:
-Elena's fiery personality
-The concept of vine witches is so freakin' cool to me
-A hint of romance - it drives a large portion of the book, from about halfway on, but it doesn't drive the ENTIRE book
-Very detailed writing and world building. Not once in my life have I thought "I wonder what it's like to be a toad..." but now, I feel like I have some idea of what it would be like.
-Depth of character relationships

Lowlights:
-Filler. I feel that many parts were not necessary and I zoned out during several chapters, but I didn't end up having to go back because I missed anything
-The main character's love interest is pretty two-dimensional. The fact that the story included romance felt a bit forced. Elena doesn't seem like the type to need a man, or even want one, for that matter...

3.5 stars. I liked this, it kept my interest while I was listening (Kindle Unlimited, with both text and audio) ... but I put off my review for a few days, and already the book is fading in my memory. I do recall that as it started up, I felt like maybe I'd got into a sequel or something. It just felt like I should have had some former knowledge coming in. But no, this is the first book of the series, and I figured out what was going on (it was strange!) The concept of a "vine witch" was interesting.

Lovely Book!

I enjoyed this novel. The setting was nicely portrayed, and the characters were believable enough. I don’t feel super connected to the main character overall. But I did enjoy the adventures and quick pace of the novel. I also liked the wine references and the world building immensely.

Yapp! (Bleh.)

Jó volt? Amúgy eléggé.

When I first read about this book I knew I needed it because I’m exactly the kind of reader it would’ve been written for. I loved the concept of the vine witches (& all the other kinds of witches in this world) & just think it’s a really beautiful idea for magic to be a part of the wine-making process. The plot was very exciting - it even took me to a carnival
