I honestly loved this book! Read it for book club and found it to be one of my favs that we’ve read so far. I’ve always loved Fried Green Tomatoes and found a lot of familiar moral-type decision making towards the end with regards to Elner’s secret. There was a decent amount of humour scattered throughout the book. My biggest criticism was that I had difficulties keeping up with all of the characters. It would have been nice to have a character list to turn to

Fannie Flagg brings readers another story built around a heavy, deep subject -- but Flagg has the distinct ability to be able to lighten the tone so you don't feel weighed down by the intensity of the subject. Light narration, warm characters.
All-in-all: Highly recommend -- especially if you tend to watch It's a Wonderful Life every Christmas!

Reading Fannie Flagg is like spending time with funny, quirkly old friends. Her characters are endearing and their outlook on life makes you reassess any of your own cynical, aloof or self-serving tendencies. This particular novel does the "wrap up" a bit too much for me, tucking every character into a neat package complete with a life lesson. Still, the book is jovial and easygoing - a great place to visit at the end of a hard day.

I love Flagg's small town southern characters - quirky, heartwarming and funny. I so wanna visit! This kind of Heaven sounds grand.

Checking off "a book your mother loves" for my 2015 reading challenge... she apparently has horrible taste.

It’s a cute story, that raises some interesting questions like what would you want to do before you die. It paints some interesting pictures of quaint characters in a small southern town. Other than that it’s pretty slow moving. After having read Fried Green Tomatoes I had higher expectations but mostly it was just ok.

When I first heard of this author, because my mom liked her so much, I assumed that she was a writer for older people. I assumed wrong.

Fannie Flagg has a way of writing that makes her books enjoyable for more than just our parents, also for young adults. It's like other books I've read before, funny, witty, filled with good characters and made me really want to read more of her books. Good thing too, my mom has all her books.

Now I'm onto my next book, The Princess Bride, but I will get those books from my mom and keep them on my bookcase and read them all.

Kind of a cute book. I really like the character of Elner; Norma was a little annoying. This is just a frothy, fun read without a lot to it, but has a nice message about living life to the fullest.

I am so surprised how much I liked this book. I bought it because it's by the same author as Fried Green Tomatoes and it was a cheap audiobook, but I had no idea how inspiring it would be to me. True, it is really hokey at times and very old-folksy too. But the main character was just such a good person and friend, that the character has really stuck with me. She makes me want to be a better person, and not many books make me feel that way.
