This series is truly lovely. It’s wonderful to see characters who go against gender norms and who are supported by their families and friends. There are some distant relatives who bully Aster, but his immediate family has his back and his confidence and strong sense of identity helps him stay strong. I know there are lots of children who need these great examples of what healthy, supportive relationships look like. I also love the character of Charlie because she’s such an awesome friend to Aster and Ariel. She’s always there, even when things get hard. I really hope to see more books in the series.

Really enjoyed this and I thought it was a good ending to the series. It was paced well, and the art was great. I also thought Charlie and Ariel’s relationship was cute, and I feel like in this book it expanded more into different relationships other than Charlie’s and Asters which was cool to see.

"Aren't you embarrassed? It's not normal." "You keep saying that like it's a bad thing."
What a wonderful end to this trilogy (although I wouldn't be opposed to more instalments). I'm so glad I finally read this one.
As usual this artwork in this one was gorgeous and just plain adorable at times. The themes of being true to yourself continue in this story as Aster and co. attend The Midwinter Festival aka The Vanissen family reunion where Aster finds himself judged for his gender non-conformity but has the confidence to overcome this with the support of his friends and loved ones. It also continues the themes of choosing who you want to be with the continuation of Ariel's story from The Hidden Witch and additional themes of chosen/found family as Ariel finds herself choosing between her biological family and the Vanissens.
Overall this book gave me a warm fuzzy feeling and I loved it very much. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who enjoyed the first two instalments and I highly recommend this series overall.
