Lilah Calloway is obsessed with secrets, and when she has to go back home, she finds the perfect opportunity to find out everyone's secrets.

"I love secrets and i'm good at finding them. For the least two years, I've learned to collect secrets one by one because secrets are flames and no place deserves to burn more than my small town." - Prologue of Chasing Spring.

Before I start talking about the book, I want to talk about how Rachel's writing is always easy to read through, it flows perfectly and is worded just the right way. I was hooked from the prologue up until the last word, and still wishing there was more to the story. The ending was so beautiful, I can't even put it into words, but it was a great way to end begin a story.

Now, let's talk about the book.

I cried, a lot, while reading this book. I felt really sad when reading some parts of this book, and was always rooting for Lilah. There's a lot of darkness in Lilah's life, and she's haunted by her past. Lilah Calloway had to return to Blackwater, Texas for the last semester of her senior year. Coincidentally, her childhood best friend Chase Matthews is moving into her house with her dad because of his drunken father. They ended things roughly before she left to live with her Aunt in Austen, but it doesn't take long before Chase has broken through the wall of Lilah's life. Lila has a thing for secrets, she wants to know everyone's secrets, she finds them interesting and helps her realize that not everyone have perfect lives. Her life is shattered back to reality when the past is ripped open again, and she's forced to face the truth. Lila and Chase don't have it easy, she wasn't looking for an angel, and he wasn't looking to be her hero, but some things just happen.

"Which little white pill makes a mother forget her dautgher?"

A lot of people have demons on the inside, refusing to let other people see, but some are just the opposite, showing only their demons while refusing to show people who they really are. This is a story about two teenagers trying to figure their life out, and trying to forgive and stop being angry at ghosts of the past. A story you don't want to miss.

"We'd forever be moving in opposite directions- after all, he was the golden boy, and I was the lost girl."

Lilah and Chase go through a lot together, especially with their dark past and their families tie together that will forever be in their history. Lila refuses to get close to Chase, afraid of what will happen if she does, but Chase doesn't care, he's always cared for lilac and always will. In the last semester of their High School life, and life at Blackwater, they will decide if they're worth having a happy middle.

Rachel Grey, I salute you and your incredible mind for writing such a beautiful and dark story, I couldn't stop crying and smiling at the same time, and i'm glad you decided to publish Chasing Spring. I'm also thankful to have received an early copy, and that I got the chance to read Lilah and Chase's story.

I recommend this book to any and everyone, It's officially my favorite book by Rachel and if I could give it 6 stars, then I would. Go online and buy it!

DNF at 40 percent. Too much unnecessary teenage drama.

R.S. Grey caught my attention with The Allure series, an enjoyable new adult romance. While, Chasing Spring was set in high school and was more in young adult age range, the quality of writing and depth of characters was still there.

Two major things that spoiled my enjoyment of this book were:
1) Heroine. I didn't like her personality at all. Emo, moping. Snooping about other people's secrets.
2) It seemed like everyone were partying, getting drunk and using some kind of drugs. Is this really a realistic picture of today's high schools? It made me feel so old! :/

While the young adult drama in Chasing Spring was not really my thing, the writting was very good, so I will surely read more novels by R.S. Grey (if they are for adult auidence).

« I wasn’t sure who fell asleep first, but I woke up in the middle of the night with her hand on my chest and my heart in her palm (…) » Chasing Spring, by R.S Grey

Chasing Spring …. I read it two days … One day is enough because it’s an easy read. Not in a bad way. It’s easy because R.S Grey’s writing is beautiful and exquisite. And you can’t put the book down until you reach the very end.
I was a little thrown off at first because Chasing Spring is not the typical, funny, sexy, light romance we are used when it comes to RS GREY. This book is about grief, pain, friendship and the need to find peace even if the odds are against you. It’s another side of this author and not a bad one. I love all of her books so far and I am not disappointed with this one either ! No light-humor and sexiness but a beautiful story between 2 friends who try their best to live their lives the way they know it. A Must read for every booklover out there 💗💗

I fell in love with R.S. Grey’s writing when I first read The Allure of Dean Harper. Chasing Spring is a much darker novel… at least when compared to Dean Harper. It’s one of the reasons why I loved the book so much—Grey’s writing is so diverse. That’s always so interesting to experience. Like, how did this author who wrote a silly, light-hearted novel about sex and love also write this dark novel about love, of course, but also becoming adults way earlier than teenagers should have to? Props to Grey in that aspect!

I love books that are set in small towns, which surprises me because I grew up in a small town and I hated it. But, for story purposes, I love them because the drama is always so more intense. Everyone knows about everything, so if someone messes up, they mess up tenfold. And Blackwater, Texas was a great choice for this book.

I really enjoyed Lilah’s voice. She reminded me of Bianca from The DUFF, which as you all know, is a huge compliment from me. She put up an armor around herself to stop herself from getting hurt, but in the end it was only hurting herself. She was sassy and cynical and just all around an amazing character.

Chase Matthews was great, too. His character messed me up for two reasons—one: my name is Chase and it felt like I was falling in love with myself, which is true, but YOU KNOW. Two: Chase Matthews is the name of the character from Zoey 101 and it just made me crack up. But, there is complete divergence from both of these things and I did end up falling in love with Chase. For some reason, I always love the Golden Boy trope and it gets me every time!

The plot was very dramatic (in a good way) and kept me on my toes. I really enjoyed all of the POVs that were in the book and how we got little snippets of Lilah’s enigma of a mom. Those POVs just make the story that much more heartbreaking. And that ending! I don’t think I cried throughout the book until the last page and then I was just sobbing.

All in all, this was an exceptional novel filled with love, dark secrets, tears, and a romance that will leave you wanting more. It was quite different from the first R.S. Grey book I read, but I very much enjoyed this book! And it’s perfect because Spring has finally sprung. Just read it! You won’t regret it!

A coming-of-age tale about a girl who has lost her way and the boy who was always meant to lead her home. The road is rocky and tough, but neither can find any other path than the one they’re on. It was sweet, cathartic, and packed with the gut-wrenching truth to how anyone can fall apart but get back up again.

“I’d never asked him to take me to the gray. I was perfectly happy living in the black.”

Lilah and Chase have this irreparable relationship that spans years, and even though they’ve been apart, that soul-deep connection is still there. They’ve been through quite the storm and aren’t quite sure if their friendship has weathered it. Forced into small confines now, Chase will have to find his opening back to the girl he’s always loved while Lilah will have to find what brings her peace. Aside from a bit of choppiness in the story at certain parts, I fully enjoyed this inspiring romance that you knew had much deeper things hidden inside of it, and kept you reading to find the sadness buried within. It’ll pull on your heartstrings and make you sad for the circumstances that surround life, but it’ll also give you hope that certain kinds of love can become stronger through it. Their journey is nowhere near easy, but worth it for the ride.
