Un bon roman! Je n'étais pas certaine au début, l'histoire commençant doucement pas une rencontre entre une femme et un bel étranger ... J'avais peur de lire un Wanna be 50 shades. Finalement, le livre n'a pas pris la direction que je croyais et m'a agréablement surprise en captivant mon attention. J'ai dévoré le reste de l'histoire avec appréhension, curieuse d'en connaître le dénouement. Je le conseil!

Do not read. If you start the book and get angry, it’s probably worth finishing to find out the ending. But I felt sick reading the words written. I have NO idea why this book is so popular. The words are atrocious. The characters are all horrible horrible people. Colleen Hoover needs therapy. The level of description she gives to awful events is scary and sickening.

This book is so triggering. Abortion, abuse, sex, infanticide, matricide … this book is a lot.

Perhaps it’s a consequence of the “thriller” genre, but I find the way these kinds of books to develop leaves much to be desired. I feel like the first half of the book was setup and then the denouement and finish were lackluster and rushed. In the acknowledgments she mentioned that she hadn’t finished the book until four days before press so maybe that’s got something to do with it

The build up and big reveals were very contrived. I think I was thrown off because I cared so little about the characters. I like thrillers that build suspense through narrators that are confused and can’t trust themselves due to factors out of their immediate control, but Lowen didn’t seem to hit that. If anything, I felt she was too blinded by Jeremy to have any self-preservation and I couldn’t sympathize. Hard to feel concerned for the main character’s safety when you feel like she keeps repeating bad decisions and ignoring her gut instincts because she’s too busy thinking about a headboard.
