This was a difficult book to get through. The juxtaposition of childhood and prostitution was jarring for the second half of the book. I want to grab Baby and give her a hug and tell her that she is loved.

Engaging writing style. I loved being inside Baby’s head. Her perspective was often beautiful, sad, misguided. It was devastating to see her spiral into a lifestyle I thought she would somehow escape. It was even more jarring to read it from her perspective. Sometimes she understood the sadness and gravitas of the situations she found herself in, yet most times she saw these circumstances as inevitable. It was utterly depressing to see her succumb to the belief that she was meant for nothing greater. Regardless of her intelligence and potential, a kid in a messed up environment will likely succumb to the pressures of that environment without the help of a competent adult and a change of environment. We are doomed to repeat the sins of our father.

Very dark and a little hard to read at some points because of the main character being a young child facing terrible things. Beautifully written, the author has an amazing way of using metaphors to really capture the imagery of the story. Would definitely recommend but also take care while reading.
