Synopsis:
After being attacked by the Ancient, Jenna Darrow finds herself struggling to understand the changes going on around and inside her. Not only must she come to terms with the changes occurring within her own body and with the existence of vampires in the world but also with her inexplicable attraction to Brock, a Breed warrior who has the power either to heal or destroy her heart forever…

Review:
The last two books in the series have been hit or miss for me (Ashes was a miss but Shades was an amazing hit). Unfortunately, Taken by Midnight is more miss than hit, although there are some highlights such as the continuing story of the battle against Dragos and the search for the missing Breedmates. I really enjoyed the fact that the women of the Order take an active role in the story and are not merely window dressing.

Another positive aspect is the information provided regarding Hunter, the cold and logical warrior who has fascinated me from book 5, and Chase who seems to be coping with some serious issues. I am eagerly awaiting their stories.

The romance is the most disappointing aspect of the book because, even though Jenna and Brock are interesting as individual characters, their relationship lacks the chemistry and intensity of connection that characterizes the other couples in the series. While you cannot help but sympathize with Jenna’s suffering, it is difficult to completely identify with someone who is completely immersed in their pain and guilt to the extent that they have almost lost the will to live. Brock, on the other hand, is an amazing hero, loving, patient and protective but his attraction to Jenna didn’t mesh with me.

Overall, the writing flows and the action scenes are excellent. However, many questions remain unanswered regarding Jenna’s transformation and I hope that details will be forthcoming in the next installments.

In diesem 7.

What I Loved: I loved how this book was a huge catalyst in pushing forward the story of the fight between Dragos and The Order. Most of all though, I love the story of Brock and Jenna. This is probably going down as my second favorite love story in the series. Both of them had so much they needed to heal from past relationships and so much they had to handle in the present, that theirs was such a classic love story. Could love conquer all? She was not a breedmate only human, neither were interested in love, and most of all were the ramifications they were having to deal with based on what happened to Jenna at the end of the last book. I won't give anything away but their journey to each other was just a wonderful read!

What I Liked: We got to reconnect with all the Breed and their Breedmates. The book personified why I am a series reader, I love seeing what characters I care about are doing now. This book also opened up a huge realm of possibilities on where the series can go from here: from what is happening to Jenna (the ramifications of the attack from the last book) to what happened at the end (which I won't give away). I am excited to see what happens next.

Complaints: I wasn't a big fan of the abrupt end but I kind of see where there was no other choice. I will be waiting for the next book!

Why I gave it a 4: I realize this book is one that mostly just pushes the story forward but to me it is one of the best love stories of the series. Brock and Jenna are the reason this book is so good. Their story is well worth the read as well as the leaps forward the overall story takes.

Who I would recommend it too: PNR readers. However, I will say this. If you haven't read the rest of the series, you can read this one but you won't get the richness of the bonds all the characters feel towards each other. Lara does an excellent job of giving you the background story without hitting you over the head with it but you would be missing an excellent progression of story if you just skipped ahead to this book. Read the series, it is well worth the time!

This book was by far my favorite so far. It was similar to the other books, but so different at the same time. I seriously had such a hard time putting it down, because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next. The ending didn't answer all of my questions though, so I hope in the books to come that they get answered. I loved this book so much that I kind of wished it was longer. But it makes me even more excited for what is to come in the next books.

A good solid story. I hope we find out more about her condition as the series progresses, though I must admit I secretly hoped she would sprout fangs by the end of the book, but no dice. I think my favorite part of the book was that it was a continuation of book 7. I mean, they're all a "continuation" of the one before it, but this was a real "to be continued..."

I really like this series, although there is a LOT of sex, it doesn't cloud the story. I liked Jenna and Brock all right but it really needs to end. It seems as if Adrian can't end the series until they all have mates, like "as soon as they are all mated they can finally catch the bad guy and end this never ending series" The breedmates & Jenna stepped it up in this book, and I like that they are a lot more involved in the mission. I am curious to see how Jenna ends up, after her ordeal with the ancient. I was surprised more of that didn't come out in this book.

I really did like this book... my only problem was the ending, I honestly didn't like it and I was hoping that what was happening to Jenna would have been fully explained. This is part of a series, so I'm hoping the next book goes into more detail about it.
