So it's two books in one. I rather enjoyed the first one, but "Seymour: An Introduction" was a bit of a slog for me. Parts of it were brilliant, but much of it was just bizarre.

finished all the glass family works. here comes the depression. these two stories were vastly different, although they were both told by the same person. i love buddy glass' authorial voice, page long tangents and all.

Keep me up till five only because all your stars are out, and for no other reason.”
The Glass family holds a special place in my heart.

“One of the thousand reasons I quit going to the theater when I was about twenty was that I resented like hell filing out of the theater just because some playwright was forever slamming down his silly curtain.”

Endings are the most annoying and inconvenient of things, yet now I believe I am finished with the wonderful Glass family, and for that I am terribly sad. Salinger is one of, if not absolutely, my favorite writer and this did nothing but add to that opinion. If I could read Salinger’s grocery lists I would probably find them enjoyable.

Buddy Glass' tone and narrative style in both of these stories are so intriguing and artfully written. Seymour is certainly more experimental, but I love the Salinger babble. It feels like an appropriate reaction to grief and love and spirituality. Beautiful character study. Definitely something I need to revisit (along with the rest of the Glass collection) to truly get, but really enjoyed reading.
