Yet another amazing NHHT work! Admittedly this was a tad dark towards the end and it was more difficult than usual for me to keep track of characters, but the storytelling is still immersive and the historical elements were very well-implemented!

If we ever cross paths in real life, stop me and ask me about this series of historical graphic novels and I will rave endlessly about how smart and funny they are, how they perfectly mix learning and entertainment, how the narrators address the needs of struggling readers and higher level thinkers, and how Hale really creatively uses the format to do things you just couldn't do in a straight text. I didn't know a ton of detail about the Doolittle raid so I actually learned quite a bit from the volume.

Another great entry into the collection, a lesser known story from World War II. Hale made some smart choices as a writer, hinting at all the stories that tie together to make this one and hopefully encouraging readers to go beyond these pages to find out more (or perhaps hinting at books to come, though one of the reasons I enjoy this series is that it is not just World War II) rather than trying to cram it all into this one book.

I dig this series, but this was probably the weakest in the series. Narrative was all over the place and there was zero characterization.
