3.5 only bc i rly like it but i didn’t love it, rounded it up because i don’t think it deserves 3 stars.

i’ve been on a fantasy book spree so this was a nice set back as a break from it, so that’s why i liked it :) had the cliche romcom book formula that your basic romcom book has, which was great and fine with me.

All in all this book is a good romance book with a small plot-twist towards the ending.
I quite liked the characters and the story line. Just a quick, lighthearted romance book.
Can be read as a standalone.

4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is what I had been reaching for when I needed something cute and lighthearted. The childhood enemies to adults with crushes but the only know how to be mean to each other. It’s fun and I am glad for it.

It felt about 200 pages too long. I skipped entire chapters where ASOLUTELY FUKING NOTHING happens. There's so many unnecessary scenes, like the one with a Bridezilla videocalling her groom who is in a boat somewhere in Europe (I think, I didn't really pay attention) and yelling to him to get his ass to the US, and later we found out that the wedding is cancelled. Really, I didn't read the whole four pages of it and I didn't miss anything. Ah, but the "Royal wedding", the event that was super important, so important that the MVP bonus was TEN TIMES bigger than usual, only gets like half a page. It was a let down, to say the least.
The "banter" between the characters has him looking like a condescending, mansplaining jerk half the time, and the other half she looks like a petty competitive bitch. Besides, he makes her feel stupid half the time, when he's the one who dropped out of college because he was failing everything! And on that vein, how did he become a chef? Don't you need to go to culinary school to be one? Because all we know is that he dropped out, worked as a bartender for a while and BAM! he's the chef of some politician somewhere in the middle east (I think, I can't be bothered to remember). Who did he study with? if not a school, at least a known chef, to land a job with a politician. But it seems he just decided to be a chef and now he's one.
Her POV's are so repetitive! (I know, you saw him going into the elevator with a drunk girl who might have been grabbing his ass, once is enough, I don't need to read a summary of that scene every other page). And what did she study in college again? Not law, she declined Yale, but we're never told. And you think that would have been important to her.
After they have sex for the first time I started skipping complete chapters, because really, absolutely nothing happens there. Didn't miss anything important.
And the "villain"! God, such a cartoon! So stupid I started wondering how did he get a job in the first place. And I never understood what his actual job was. He was supposed to be in charge of "guest experience" whatever that means (I'm starting to believe not even the author knows), but he can do the same things the fMC does? why have two people, then? Why would he have the authority to change shipping orders or be in the freakin kitchen whenever he wants? I'll never know. Also, why in hell would he want to ruin the events? Isn't that part of the guest expeience and as such reflect badly on him? He takes credit for something the MCs do, and at least three other people know he didn't do it, so, what's the point in lying about it?
And the whole photo situation! The MMC took photos of both of them, but only hers is sent? If the villain wanted to win the money so badly, why ruin only her? And, they could have freakin gotten this asshole arrested for breaching their privacy, not just fired. Sharing nude photos of people is a HUGE NO NO everywhere! It means jail time! Sure, the boss wouldn't tell the MMC who sent the photo, but he'd have to tell the police! And she's a judgmental bitch, and doesn't even give the guy she has basically lived with for two months a chance to explain, and believes the absolute worst of him immediately.
I'm amazed I actually finished this, I wanted to DNF so many times... I should have.
