I wanted to like this book.  I really did. The pitch was promising, the cover and art inside are great (though some of the images are unreadable on kindle). I love 80s media like Heathers and all the songs in the book, and it's ultimately about the power of friendship (and that's one of the few things that caused me to boost my rating to 2.5 stars)

But some of the language and jokes at the beginning, while likely accurate for the time, weren't necessary to the plot and could/probably should have been cut. Thankfully that either dropped off quickly (or I just stopped noticing it when the descriptions got more graphic and I got ill while reading).

Just as some reviewers don't understand a rating less than five stars,  I don't understand how anyone could rate it at a 4 or 5. This book ultimately wasn't for me.

I found the book good overall. It felt a little dragging in the secon third but really picked up and became wild in the last third.

Overall this book is a 4⭐️. The writing/plot/story and characters are what gives it a 4⭐️. I also really enjoyed the pop culture references through out the story.

This was WAY better than The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires.

There was a heavy presence of religion; which is appropriate since the story is about an exorcism.

Below is why I gave it a 2⭐️.

Now I know the this is not the first time Grady has killed animals. I just can’t get behind a senseless animal death.

IT DIDN’T ADD TO THE STORY AT ALL. THIS WAS NOT NEEDED. MAX DID NOT HAVE TO DIED.

With all the said, it’s a 2 ⭐️ for me dog.

This book was so interesting, and had such a good plot. There was a lot of plot devices introduced early in the novel that played a big part later on into the story. The beginning to the end was such a rollercoaster that I was confused but I loved it. This is the types of horror novel that keeps you aware but it won’t scare you. The details were written in a way where you could feel and see them and will have a physical reaction to some of the writing. Definitely a 4 star read.
