This book had a lot of potential. I picked it up after a tough read thinking that this would be lighter…lol. It’s not a light read at all and quite frankly, it’s far too long.
Maeve is totally unlikeable which makes it a drag following her perspective for 400 pages. Roe is a confusing character; I don’t get what kind of person would embark on a romance with someone who is not only responsible for their sister being missing, but also put her through some horrible and relentless bullying after being a close family friend for years??
There were some errors I encountered (Maeve described as wearing leggings and then a page later is in jeans, accidental switch from first person to third) that supported the idea that this may have been rushed.
Really I think this needed to be heavily edited. I’m not interested in anyone aside from Fiona, and she is sadly not enough to convince me to read the rest of the series.

I felt like there was very little resolution of the plot and also wish I’d known there was so much violent homophobia as plot point(s, plural!).

Its very witchy and queer. The magic blends into the mundane almost seamlessly. All of the characters are deeply flawed and interesting individuals. The mystery keeps you on the edge of your seat.
