I plodded through the first half of this book at a snail’s pace, intrigued by the setup but unsure where it was going. However. When it got going, it sure heated up. The contrast between the 2 main characters challenges you to find your stance between them while being immersed in 2 different views. I think the ending was frustratingly unsatisfying, but only in the sense that leaves you pondering the events and wanting more.

did not enjoy this book. I expected SO much more, I was sold by the promise of a physiological thriller but this was boring at best. The characters were all incredibly unlikeable, the pacing was slow and the plot was repetitive and predictable.

Slater’s writing itself was fine, it was easy to read and a redeeming factor for me was the descriptive settings that transported me into the story. I liked the literary references throughout and the exploration of true crime as a genre.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this but this seems to be an unpopular opinion based on all the other rave reviews.
