I picked this book up because I so enjoyed The World More Full of Weeping. The topic (child death or near death) is not really a topic I am interested in, but Wiersema's writing in Weeping is so enveloping I gave it a shot. It starts off fairly uninteresting and predictable. Child hit by car, marriage falls apart and my emotions get tugged around (really, it isn't that hard to do). A third of the way through the book, the spark catches and Wiersema gets a nice flame going for an unusual story. I wish he'd have found a way to have give accident and marriage disintegration details as a back story. We just get glimpses of the writing that Wiersema is capable of. I sure do look forward to his next work.

This book takes place in Victoria BC which made it fun to read as I knew many of the places mentioned in the book. The story has a good against evil supernatural storyline. I enjoyed this book.

Before I wake is a great debut novel, the writing is captivating and the story flows beautifully. It's not entirely my cup of tea with a God complex as the underlying theme however, still a nice read.

Compelling and mesmerizing. The author grew up where I live and that's why I read the book the first time, but I'll go back and read it again. Bought it for my Kobo.

This book was so different than I expected. It's a dark tale that took me on a roller coaster ride through despair and hope. Before I Wake is unlike anything I've read before. For that reason alone, I gave it a rating of 4 out of 5. I read a lot so different and surprising are good things.

This book sucked me in right away, from the first page I needed to know what happened to this poor family during this terrible tragedy. I didn't like Simon very much but loved the rest of the characters (except, obviously, Father Peter), even including Henry, the man who hit the poor girl.

I almost literally couldn't put this book down, I read it within 24 hours I think. I tend to shy away from books about miracles, but first off I didn't know that was what the book was about (the blurb on the back wasn't a very good synopsis), but secondly it was so well written that I wanted to know what was going on.

I figured out early on who "Tim" was supposed to be, but "Father Peter" eluded me until the very end. That whole concept was amazing, I loved it.

Basically...you have to read this book. It's awesome!
