This is a lighthearted adventure, whose genie and magic carpet fit well with tales of Arabian nights. The style seems rather different than its precursor: Howl's Moving Castle, but both of them are wonderful books which I've loved reading and rereading as I've grown up.

I've read Howl's Moving Castle a number of times and loved it more with each reread. I'm mad that I waited this long to read Castle in the Air. What have I been missing all these years?!
It was so fun following Abdullah's story. DWJ keeps it fairly similar to the Aladdin story, but with a refreshing spin. And tying it in with Ingary later made for some especially enjoyable moments. I was hugely entertained throughout and will keep this on my "To Reread" list for years to come.

What a clever story. All throughout the first half, I kept waiting for the Howl, Sophie and Calcifer I knew and loved from [b:Howl's Moving Castle|6294|Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1)|Diana Wynne Jones|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1327887365s/6294.jpg|2001] to show up. It turned out they were there almost from the beginning (Calcifer especially), just in different forms. The main character in this volume is young Abdullah, a daydreamer who stumbles upon an extraordinary opportunity to elope with the beautiful, witty, educated princess Flower-in-the-Night. Abdullah's adventures culminate in the discover of many princesses, of all shapes, ages, sizes and colors. Yet he still only has eyes for Flower-in-the-Night, even if he did upset her by not attempting to kiss her. It would be wonderful to see this as a Hiyao Mizayaki movie like the first volume in the series - a princess movie with real diversity of princesses, and heroines valued for their intellect and not just their beauty. I wouldn't quite go so far as to say it's as good as the first book, but it's definitely worth a read for lovers of Howl and Sophie.

Everything happened at the very end. The best are the characters from the previous book, although they feel different. I was expecting something more like the first one, Howl's moving castle. It was bland.

My girl Diana is a pro in these romcom endings.
I have quite a relationship with this series. Connection builds up with each book. And it's great.

I LOVED THIS STORY! Both "audio" experience and reading it by myself. Made me wanna push my mom and sister to read it.

BTW, Genie is awesome. Should've guessed, but I didn't, which was a nice surprise. And I'd say it has quite a few of them. At least, for me.
And, guys, GUYS! I wanna tell you - this book is hilarious. Laughed sooo many times, can't even count.
I had some problems throughout my path, but they are not major in any way, so I'll end this more-rave-than-a-review on a possitive note.

Highly recommend!

P.S. You can start this series with Castle in the Air, if you want, because it's a companion novel, but I think it would be cooler if you read Howl's Moving Castle first. It's always good to see some old friends again.
