Love this for the relationships and worldbuilding, how alive every corner of it seems. The greater patterns of society and plots have been going on beyond the main characters, and certain issues are coming to a head. But make no mistake, the driving factor and dearest part of this story is the cast, all of whom have their own desires, reasons for entering the competitions, relationships with each other and their families, and hidden depths. I love them all with all their flaws included and hope to see them continue to make mistakes, grow, and reconcile and help each other. Every time I reread this story I pick up something new about the plot, the characters, the world, and the mysteries.

Built into the fantasy world is diversity (main character is nonbinary and the cast is very diverse in terms of gender, gender expression, sexuality, and race) and it's just something built into the world, not something that is part of the drama or remarked upon, which is refreshing. The art is very colorful, easy to follow/read, and the book is a good size and quality to display it. This was everything I hoped for. Can't wait to buy the next volume when it comes out!
