I liked this book more than I thought I would, but romance being a lesser favored genre for me, it was still mediocre at best. Did really love the protagonist - levelheaded, smart, courageous, and expressive - the kind of young woman I’d want my daughters to grown into.

I almost always enjoy Nora Roberts, but this book felt more like a family drama or women's fiction than a romantic suspense. The only real suspense is at the beginning, when Caitlyn is kidnapped. The rest of the book follows Cate as she grows up, finds herself, finds love, and figures out how to deal with her mother. Roberts is very good at close, sickly sweet families, and there is no shortage of that here. I just was expecting a little more from the suspense side of things.
