I have been a lover of Samantha Young's paranormal books for years, but I haven't read anything of hers lately. This was my first contemporary book of hers and I quite enjoyed it. I really missed her. I just didn't give it five stars because the second half of the book somewhat brought it down for me.

The first half was what truly shined. I loved the dynamics between Robyn and Mac, her father. I felt for her so damn much. I wanted to give her a big hug and tell her that she was enough and that she was loved. I felt for Mac too, but fuck that. He could have fought harder for his own daughter. As far as I am concerned there should have been a grand gesture from him. It wasn't enough to give her some letters and expect everything was suddenly fine. I confess I'm simultaneously excited and dreading Mac's book.

Another thing I didn't exactly like was that tepid ass third act breakup between Robyn and Lachlan. Sam, I know you could do it better! Especially with how much of a bastard Lachlan was being in the beginning. I love asshole heroes turned passionate lovers.

Anyway, this was a great first introduction to a promising series.

The book you struggle to finish and never pick up again - here is why:
- unnecessarily long and the plot was not up to it
- the abandonment issue = her father could come to her on her 18th birthday if he was so afraid to have his parental rights removed before. Why didn't he? Here we are 10 years later and she had to come to him? And he is supposed to love his daughter? Please...
- and the toxic Lachlan

Oh boy, the male character... He was borderline rude. He was involved with another woman during the story. He wants only s*x, but is pissed when she doesn't want to open up to him? He punishes her for trying to protect herself. He manhandles her all the time.
Why would any woman want this guy?
