I enjoyed this book and it pulled me out of a reading slump due to it's fast pace and easy reading style. I like a heist story and this book in many ways reminded me of The Final Empire. I would say that it is a good book if you don't usually read fantasy and want to dip your toes into the genre.

This was so nearly a 5* read for me but there were a couple of things that I didn't like. I think most of these were victims of the book being a YA. The two main things I disliked were:
- the romance - I'd be perfectly happy with no romance but well written romance I don't mind. The romance bits in this were just annoying. Maybe book 2 will change my mind on that point
- whilst there were many points where events went south for the characters, there never really felt like there was any great peril. Again, maybe that is because it is written as YA? But I personally would have liked a bit more tension.

I understand the hype for this series. Night and day for me from Shadow and Bone where I felt the characters were lackluster and the action felt really contrived. In comparison, Six of Crows is full of complicated and morally ambiguous protagonists and compelling, "what will happen next" sort of action. The twists and turns were endless, and the characters all had rich and well-developed backstories that gave you an interesting perspective on why they act they way they do. This book felt like a fantasy version of Oceans Eleven with traumatized teenagers, and I loved every minute of it. It all worked for me.

I’d attempted to read this book before and lost steam, but at no fault of the author / writing. The story follows a classic heist timeline and the pace is constantly accelerating in a way where it can creep up on you toward the end. I couldn’t put the book down within the last 100-150 pages or so. I think the characters are fantastic and flawed in very human, relatable ways and I cannot wait to get my hands on Crooked Kingdom and continue the adventure.
