My second book by this author, The Fury didn’t quite top The Silent Patient yet was an enjoyable journey. This story is a whydunit as opposed to a whodunit we are told early one.

A locked room mystery in the vein of And Then There were None, The Fury-a brutal wind that isolates a small Greek island, traps a group of guests overnight. A murder occurs and the remainder of the night is spent unravelling one twist after another.

I must be getting good at this or am able to pick up on dropped hints well as I often considered what could be the next twist correctly. That said I didn’t guess them all and was satisfied with the somewhat convoluted story of this mystery.

The story begins with the narrator asking you to pull up a stool and they will tell you a story. It kept this pacing throughout of a slow told story, revealing and repairing the story as it is told. I struggled a little with the narrator breaking through to speak to the reader directly but in the overall scheme of things see it was a clever use of the unreliable narrator.

The multiple ways the title can be interpreted was very well conceptualized. The atmosphere of the Greek island isolated from other islands by the wind added to the suspense of the story.

I enjoyed the Easter egg connected to The Silent Patient and understand there is also one for his sophomore novel. I would recommend reading The Silent Patient prior to The Fury as this one does spoil part of the ending of The Silent Patient.

Thank you to @celadonbooks for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinions. The Fury publishes January 16, 2024. I would also encourage you to view past selections by Celadon as I have been impressed by many of their previously published books and look forward to reading more by this publisher.

A bewitching blend of Agatha Christie, Clue, and Knives Out/Glass Onion. This spectacular performance left me on the edge of my seat at curtain call.
