what a rollercoaster from start to finish this book was. I ship Az and Elain as well as Cass and Nesta. I find it hard to believe
Spoiler Feyre would become a natural leader with her Lady of the Night Court title so easily imo, and i'm not her biggest fan in this book
. I love Rhys and his consistent acts of consent toward Feyre and leadership to his Court are admirable. Mildly disappointed
Spoiler the monster in the library was just a thing of shadows that embodied everyone's worst fear, as i was anticipating something much more terrifying or graphic in detail, and that both the Bone Carver AND the Weaver bit it, they were interesting villains turned good
. The found family aspect in this book was wonderful as always. I'm getting tired of reading the word "Prick" as the only insult used for anyone ever, but I think the chemistry between all the side characters and their own subplots were excellent. Imo, second book is better so I docked this .25 for the slower pace, too many new characters introduced that had me not even paying attention to who they were (Draydon and his Court in particular, i didn't follow), and trying to keep up with Jurian's twisted history, but this was still very good overall and I can't wait to read the fourth.

It's the war of the centuries that's been building for ages. The culmination of every thread, the realization of everything they (we!) have worked for.

So why didn't it shine?

The utter lackluster quality of this took me off guard. And honestly, I think it all comes down to the fact that SJM doesn't know how to write a battle scene. It seemed like everyone just stood there??? Very slow for a war.

Extremely disappointing, but still good.

This book had a fairly strong start and a strong finish, in true SJM fashion I felt like some parts were a bit of a slog through the middle, but now that I know and love all the characters I was definitely interested! I have noticed with the first three books in this series, the last like 30% of the book is where all the action happens and is what keeps me wanting to pick up the next one. This book caused me to have such strong feelings, but didn’t shatter my heart which I am grateful for!

Despite this one feeling longer and a bit slower than the previous books, it might have been my favorite? I like how Tamlin's character evolves, I like the twists, I like the complicated politics of the war and everyone's relationships.
