A rare glimpse into the life of growing up on the side of the 'antagoniser' during the world war and the Chinese revolution. As someone whose parents avoid conversations about their childhoods in China at this time, this book has helped me understand a fraction of the hardships they must have endured and given a new perspective on why they may take their insipid stances on politics. Ai Qing and Ai Weiwei's tenacity to stay true to their believes and ethics are admirable and inspiring. Would definitely recommend and will likely read again.
